0.5

How has a half of a YEAR already flown by?!?!?! I just can't believe it. This age is sooooo much fun. You are changing so fast and it seems like you learn something new every day. I never thought you could get any cuter but sure enough... you did! We have had lots of time together in the last few weeks and I have loved every minute. You are the sweetest little buddy to hang out with! At 6 months: You LOVE your mama and dada and get SO excited when one of us comes home! Here you are playing with dad when he got home from football.
You are getting your 2 bottom teeth. You sleep from 7-8 every night to 7 in the morning. You love your bed, your lovie and your noise maker. I love watching you put yourself to sleep, it is so sweet. You snuggle up against your bumper and suck on your little lovie and purr a little bit until you fall asleep! We put the little animals that Karsen gave you in your bed and you wake up and play with them just like she did! I usually let you play a little while after you wake up and when I go upstairs the animals are all over your crib and you are talking to them! You drink well from a sippy cup. You love to play with your toys (thank you Owen for letting us borrow all of them!) You are sitting up all by yourself You like to shop. You still don't like your stroller after about 20 minutes (we are still working on this because I LOVE to walk with you!). Regarding shopping, you like it because I carry you the whole time. Yes, I know you are spoiled and no I don't really care. You love to swim. You love your Aristocat from Pops and play with her while Mama cleans your room You talk to (yell at) and laugh at Macy all day long You love your food! Your current diet includes bananas, cereal, peaches, strawberries, blueberries, cantaloupe, watermelon, applesauce, prunes, zucchini, squash, green beans and peas. You are not picky and even love your veggies! But your very favorite is still your mama's milk :) You love to swing and usually fall asleep in it You are growing the cutest blond peach fuzz I have ever seen. You talk and talk and talk all.day.long. You can still throw a BIG fit when things don't go your way but they are becoming less and less frequent and you are starting to understand "no". You like to read your books. You think Karsen is so funny. You are the sweetest little angel in the whole wide world and an absolute joy to be with. I love you to pieces, Mama

The Big Move....

So, we are finally here!! We just got internet connection today so get ready for lots of catch up blogging...

In usual Thompson fashion, we crammed every possible life change we could think of into a few months. We also decided that the end of the apartment lease, my last day of work and the new house closing should all be on the same day. So, with a car FULL (because we didn't get a big enough Uhaul), and no Children's badge or white coat (those had to be turned in BEFORE I left), I went to clinic one last time while Sam locked the front door and turned in the keys. I'm kind of glad I didn't have a second to think that through when I left or I'm sure I would have cried.

Poor Sam drove 4 hours in the pouring rain with a screaming baby in the back seat the whole time. He was still a wreck and she was exhausted by the time I arrived.

I saw 6 patients before I left my clinic one last time... lots of thoughts went through my head all the way to Austin. (Stay tuned for residency reflections in a later post). One sweet mom told me she wished she could move to Austin just so I could be her son's doctor. That was enough to make me really excited about my new job.

Moving in was a blast. We had the greatest moving crew in Austin - the Regents varsity football team. What took 7 of us in Dallas a whole looooooong day to pack up took them 1 hour to unload into the appropriate rooms and all furniture re-assembled. They kept referring to me as "Mrs. Thompson". I guess with a real house and a baby on my hip I was looking really old to them. The goof troop came prepared with good food and cold wine and the girls helped to get everything put away in the kitchen.

Thanks to everyone who helped. We had dinners sent from Regents families, tons of help from Jeanne Ann and David - from putting things together to polishing furniture to entertaining the peanut and a visit from the worker bees from Dallas (stay tuned!).

Don't get too excited... no pics until we are done getting things put together.

Supervising

Ta-daaa!!! We got our moneys worth for that truck!

"Goodbye" breakfast with Ryan and Holly... followed by "hello" dinner with them 5 days later in Austin!

A visit with Charlotte's newest friend, sweet Lofton before we left! We can't wait for their visit to Austin in a couple weeks!!

Last night in her sweet bassinet... boo hoo. Poor thing was desperate for her big girl crib... she was literally bumper to bumper! The first time I put her in her big bed she stretched her arms and legs all the way out immediately. Thanks girl, I got the point.

Poor Charlotte was entertaining herself A LOT while we were packing up. At this point, I found her playing under the packing paper! She is getting to be quite mobile... uh oh!!!

woo hoo!!!!

ahhhhhh.....

It's ours!!!!

First Daddy's Day

Charlotte loves her daddy. Who wouldn't?? He makes her smile all day long just by saying "Peanut", he takes such good care of her when mommy is at work, lets her bum around in a diaper most of the time, spends lots of time outside (her favorite), rocks and sings to her when she needs to cuddle, drives around without a top on the Jeep so the wind blows her peach fuzz, reads her their favorite books, kisses her goodnight every night, helps her to learn to pray and of course spoils her rotten. She is one lucky little girl to have such a sweet daddy.

We had a great day today. We went to church and breakfast at Mac's with the Bosworth's so I got to spend the morning with my other favorite dad... mine!!! I am so thankful for him, especially this year. He has been so good to us during our loss, unfortunately he remembers all too well what it was like almost 30 years ago when he lost Uncle Steve. I love you, Dad.

Here are some pics of Sam and Lotte doing their favorite activity... swimming! He calls himself the fish and her the minnow... so silly.

Farewell Payroll Queen!!

Lauren's big farewell party from BSE was at Reunion Tower on Friday night. It was wonderful... beautiful view, great food and drinks and so much fun to celebrate Lo. I was soooo proud to be her sister, everyone loves her so much and was so sad to see her go! They crowned her as the "payroll queen", read her an adorable farewell poem and we all tried to hold back the tears as Dad said his goodbye toast. She will be dearly missed, especially by her boss! We are all so excited about her promotion to full time mommy. Owen is one lucky little boy. Congrats Lauren on your dream coming true!

Work buds, Cindy did tons of work to make the party so special.

Justin got to celebrate too - done with 3rd year of medical school and proud husband of a full time wife!!!!!

Lots of great gifts including an iPAD... woohoo!!!

Firsts...

Well, we haven't done much blogging in the past month but now it is time to catch up!! Charlotte has had LOTS of first and here are some pics to prove it!

First cereal... NOT a fan!! Now 2 weeks later she finishes the whole bowl. Gone are the days of soft, not stinky, everyday baby poop.... grrrr.

First (and 2nd and 3rd and 4th and 5th and 6th!) plane ride!!
OK, so most of them were on Southwest but the last 2 were on a private jet flown by our personal favorite pilot Mr. Needham!! He offered to be our transportation for the funeral, ummm.... of course!!! Sister, I don't know what you are crying about... it is never going to get any better than that!!! By the way, we totally have the flying thing down. 1. Pack 1 bag for both of us. 2. Take the BOB and carseat through security in case the luggage leaves without you or the flight gets cancelled. 3. Valet the stroller and carseat at the jetway and have it waiting for you when you arrive. 4. Nurse the sweet girl all the way there and she LOVES to fly!!!

First Memorial Day - party animal!!!

Holding your own bottle...of course after you accomplished it I don't think anyone would ever let you do it again.

First swim... and skinny dip with a boy! Good thing it was with your daddy! You loved the water, especially after such a hot day... it felt so good!!

David Ray

David Ray Thompson, Jr
June 9, 1977 - June 4, 2010

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free
I’m following the path God has laid you see.
I took His hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work, to play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found that peace at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Oh yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savored much
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and peace to thee
God wanted me now; He set me free.

David Ray went to be with the Lord on June 4th, just a few days before his 1 year anniversary and his 33rd birthday. Although it was so hard to say goodbye, after many months of suffering there is comfort in knowing that he is no longer in pain. Perhaps even harder than the first goodbye, were the days following, as it slowly sank in that he wouldn't be back. Sam said after the funeral as the family was all together, I just keep waiting for him to get here. It will never be the same without him. Click here to read about sweet David.... he was truly an amazing person.

I was so proud of Sam at David's funeral. He stood up and fought back his tears and told everyone in the church what a wonderful brother he had. It was something I never could done, but he really wanted everyone to know the David Ray that he did. He wore his outfit from David's wedding, just one year ago. He knew that David would have loved that. He talked about that day -his beautiful bride Ashleigh, and the morning surfing that they shared together. He said that his brother told him that it was the best day of his life, and Sam said it was the most fun they ever had together.

And then he spoke of the amazing servant that David was. He read Hebrews 13:1-2, "Keep on loving each other as brothers. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it." He told everyone that no matter who they were, if they knew Sam or anyone in their family and they called David for help, even if he didn't know them, he would drop everything to go help. And that is so true. Even in his last months of life, he would go check on our house every single day and send us pictures. That was often the only time he left the house because he was so tired and in so much pain, but he knew it made his little brother so happy. Sam challenged everyone there to follow that way of life, to live for others and not for yourself. And then he raised the bar even higher, he challenged us to treat people of all walks of life like your family. He described all of David's tattoos and piercings and explained that nothing on the outside changed his love of the Lord and others on the inside. He begged us to not judge others but to love everyone. I think that the least we can do for my poor brokenhearted boy is to honor these wishes.
