Spring is here!

We have been loving the early spring weather! Most of the last 2 weeks has been 70's and sunny - LOVE it! We have been taking lots of wagon rides to the park, one of Charlotte's favorite things to do. She loves to be outside and usually cries when we shut the garage door at the end of the day. I love these sweet pictures of her playing on Thursday. They perfectly capture my dear Charlotte at almost 14 months old - happy, fun, independent, brave, sweet, silly and so so so stinkin' adorable. Thanks Nana for the darling dress!

San Antonio trip

Last weekend the Lady Knights soccer team went to state in San Antonio so we took a little road trip to watch. Sam is the strength coach for the girls soccer team so he was so proud of his girls! While we were there we decided to spend the afternoon on the Riverwalk, Charlotte's first SA trip!! She loved walking up and down the river, looking at all of the people, waving at the boats going by and talking to the ducks. We ate lunch at one of our favorite restaraunts, Boudro's, and Charlotte agreed that their guacamole is really good. What a good Texas girl!! Such a fun family day!

13 months of FUN!

I meant to write a post at Charlotte's birthday about what she was up to these days and now 1 month later I am getting around to it.... here's the scoop:

She took her first steps when we went to Dallas for Nana's birthday the first weekend in December (11 months). Then she slowly got more and more brave and took off a couple of weeks after her first birthday. Now at 13 months she is always upright and almost running! She loves to walk by herself and pulls her hand away if you try to help at all. She loves to pick up anything and walk around with it. The heavier the better. She walks often with one of Sam's tennis shoes in each hand or carrying around a full container of wipes. She is also stooping down and standing back up to pick things up along the way. She loves to get into things... anything. Literally. Magazine racks, baskets, etc... anything she can squeeze herself into. She likes her books again (yay!!) and we read from 7ish to bedtime every night. She talks constantly and reads her books aloud to us also. She says "Mama, Dada, shoes, ball, baby, fish (sh)" and for the first few times today "all done"! We taught her to sign "all done" instead of screaming to get out of her highchair. She has been doing that for about 2 weeks and now just says it! We are working on "more" because she screams for more ice from her dada. We haven't heard any Spanish words yet but we can't wait! She is becoming a more picky toddler eater but not too terrible yet. She still eats her baby oatmeal with bananas and whole milk every morning and LOVES it. She eats fruit all day long - bananas, apples, oranges (depending on the day), blackberries, blueberries and grapes(favorite!). She is currently boycotting strawberries which used to be her favorite. She only gets veggies through Happy Baby pouches - spinach, peas, sweet potatoes, carrots and corn. Or in casseroles (i.e. chicken pot pie or stew). Oh well, whatever it takes. She is just starting to eat whole cooked corn and carrots again - yay! Nothing green. The bottle wean was super easy as most things are with Miss Charlotte. It wasn't really a wean, more like packing up the bag the night before her birthday and putting them up in her closet. She never acted like she knew they were gone! It took a while for her to learn to love her whole milk but now she sucks down 2 whole 8 oz cups everyday. She still drinks it like a bottle but from a sippy cup, laying with her mama in the rocker. Her mama loves it too! She loves to play outside, especially at the park. She tolerates short rides in her wagon and stroller but still prefers to be on the loose. She likes to play with her toys in her playroom - current favs are her tea set, little people animal zoo, band set, little kitchen, blocks, trucks and babies. She still loves her Baby Einstein movies and watches one each morning when she gets up. She LOVES her lovie and cannot sleep without her. She is still an awesome sleeper - 7:30 to 8 pm - 7:00 to 7:30 am. She only takes 1 afternoon nap now which gives us way more play time on the weekends! She is crazy over her dad and yells "Da!" at him most of the time he is home. Her favorite activity is wrestling with him on our bed, and it is pretty much the only time she does that adorable belly laugh over and over and over again. She is so sad that his arm is hurt and doesn't understand why he can't play! It is pitiful. She is becoming more snuggly lately and will come to me every few minutes while she plays and hug me. It is soooooo sweet. She loves Macy and Macy is being much nicer to her too. She says "rrrrow, rrrrrow, rrrrrow" when you ask her what Macy says. So cute. She knows a few body parts - she can point to nose, ears, eyes and belly button consistently. She is in love with her Papaw and has him wrapped around her finger. She cried everytime we put her in the church nursery so now he is a nursery volunteer. He couldn't stand it. And of course, she loves the nursery now! She does not like to be with people she doesn't know. We will work on that later... like preschool maybe :).

All in all, Charlotte is this... sweet, strong willed but easy going, independent, happy, hard working, energetic, shy, curious, loving and beautiful. In my eyes, my Charlotte is perfect.

Here are some pics of Char playing this weekend!!

Charlotte Grace, Child of God

Charlotte is finally an official member of the Church! We had plans to baptize her last summer but with Uncle David's illness and a big move it just didn't get done. Thankfully David and Sam's youth pastor anointed her with holy water from the Jordan River one day at the hospice hospital. We decided that definitely counted as a baptism!!! We then chose to wait until we were members at a church in Austin, so we could baptize her in our new church home. But we have had a hard time finding a place that was just right for our family. And now that we've waited so long, Aunt Lauren is close to delivering our newest cousins and won't be traveling for a long time! So we decided to have the baptism at Mom and Dad's church this past weekend. The ceremony was wonderful, the deacon gave a beautiful message and he had a lot of fun with the four babies baptized that day. Charlotte wanted to be on the move most of the time but was a good girl for her time on the altar. She looked like a little angel in her white dress, I was so proud to be her mama. Charlotte's grandparents were not able to make it which is very unlike her grandparents who come to all of the kids special days! Pops already had a work meeting in California before I planned the last minute baptism! And JaJa and Papaw were volunteers at the Super Bowl that day! But we had a very special visitor in their place, Aunt Ruthie all the way from Ohio! It was such a special treat and I am so thankful that she was able to celebrate with us. GiGi and Grandpa (Fred and Kathy) and Rose also came to celebrate Charlotte's big day. We are so thankful for Lauren and Justin, I could not think of better godparents to help guide Charlotte, pray for and support her all the days of her life. Nana hosted a wonderful lunch afterwards with pretty pink tulips and a beautiful cake for dessert. Thanks to Uncle Vinny for being such a great photographer and spending the weekend with us!!

Hold On To Jesus by Erin O'Donnell

"You're a little piece of heaven
You're a golden ray of light.
and I wish I could protect you
from the worries of this life.
but if there's one thing i could tell you
it's no matter what you do
hold to Jesus, He's holding onto you.

The world will try to tell you
that might is more than right
and beauty's on the outside
and being good's a losing fight,
but remember what i've told you
'cause the world will make you choose
hold to Jesus, He's holding onto you.

Hold on to Jesus, and cling to his love
rest deep in his mercy, whenever things get rough
and don't lose site of his goodness
and don't ever doubt this truth,
that when you hold onto Jesus He's holdin onto you.

Hear me dear Jesus,
rock this little one to sleep
keep her close when she's scared, and
give her grace when she is weak.
I know she'll stumble, but i know she'll make it through
if you hold onto her just like you said you'd do
hold her Jesus so she'll hold on tight to you."

This song describes better than I could ever put into words my hopes for my dear Charlotte. I beg Jesus every night to hold on tight to her and to stay beside her for her whole life. I pray that I will learn to be a daily example of how to hold onto Jesus and not to the things of this world.
